Introduction: –

Plant Sciences has opened an exciting frontier in sustainable development of human resources. With the realization of foreseen advantages and unprecedented application, Plant Sciences received great attention all the world over, including developing countries. Our mission is to discover, maintain and transmit knowledge concerning basic plant biology. Department of Botany has very strong teaching and productive research groups that make fine blend of professionals well versed with practical application of Plant Sciences and its future potentialities in development of agriculture as an industry. The main thrust areas of teaching and research are Plant Systematic, Ethno botany, Plant Stress Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Advance Plant Ecology, Genetics, Environmental Botany and Plant Biochemistry. The main aim of our teaching and research is to provide integrative and conceptual foundations of plant sciences so that our graduate may endow with a broad range of skills and be able to convert their knowledge into business.

The Department intends to provide a high quality education in diverse areas of research. We have planned broaden need based research endeavors. The focal areas of research in the Department will be Plant Molecular Biology, Microbial and Plant Biotechnology and Economic Botany. We have to deeply explore the regions of plant molecular biology, cereal crops and medicinal plants and improving crop acclimation. The genomic resources can be motivated to enhance crop production by gene manipulation. The Department has arranged research activities on seed metabolism for different economically important crops and medicinal plants.
