I am pleased to introduce myself as the new Vice Chancellor of University of Sargodha and wish to share my debut thoughts about its present and prospective profile.
I am extremely proud to join such a thriving and enterprising university, which has already achieved a critical mass in quality teaching and research as well as a national distinction in building a regional knowledge economy. I am therefore deeply privileged to lead this institution to the next level of professional excellence.
I have joined UOS after over two decades of academic service mostly outside Pakistan, including as Senior Fellow at the University of Oxford from 2010 to 2015. And I am excited to progressively develop this university on the basis of valuable knowledge and experience gained abroad and at Quaid-i-Azam University, our premier national University and my parent institution.
UOS has bloomed alongside the higher education sector in Pakistan since its inception in 2002, even though its foundation was laid as De’Montmorency College in 1929. However, despite the relatively recent life as a public sector university, its academic profile is quite fascinating: Over 26,000 students being taught by around 900 faculty members in 46 departments and nine faculties at the main campus, two sub-campuses and five private-public partnership campuses spread across Punjab, besides some 500 public and private colleges affiliated with the university. Its serene and green environment is conducive for harnessing the creative abilities and sporting energies of a vibrant student community.
UOS has also made a huge difference in the demographic and economic growth of Sargodha city and Punjab province, especially by generating skillful workforce, innovating agrarian products and providing community service. I plan to build upon these wonderful successes by promoting a culture of academic enquiry among students and faculty, introducing modern modes of quality teaching and research, fostering academic-industrial links and international collaborations – and much more.
I look forward to welcoming you all to join us in this amazing journey.
